Raser Shows Racecar at SAE World Congress
At the 100-year centennial of the Society of
Automotive Engineers World Congress held April 11-14
in Detroit Michigan, Raser announced its recent
innovation in electric drive system technology.
Test results documenting 420 ft-lbs of torque
produced by a Symetron™ drive system were presented
in a video report at the show. This is enough torque
to produce 500 hp at 6250 rpm.

Raser exhibited its Formula racecar featuring a
Symetron drive system in its booth. The car is
propelled by a small 67 kg Symetron motor and
controller. In comparison, the motor in the current
Toyota Prius only assists the 150 hp combustion
engine during acceleration. Raser’s motor will drive
the race-car entirely on its own to demonstrate its
torque and speed range.
During the show Raser introduced its technology to
some of the world’s leading automakers and their
suppliers.

Raser invited racing legend
Danny Sullivan to drive
the Formula car in a low speed demonstration at the
show, and in a high speed demonstration later this
year after the car has been modified for high speed
operation. The current transmission will be upgraded
to accommodate the torque and speed delivered by the
Symetron™ drive system, and the chassis and body
will be modified for higher speed aerodynamic
operation.

Several industry leaders attended a special
demonstration held on a test track in the Detroit
area. Among the attendees were Bob Stempel, former
CEO and Chairman of General Motors, Dennis Wend,
Executive Director of the Army’s National Automotive
Center, Paul Curtis, VP Engineering for Prestolite
Corporation and many others.

The Army NAC displayed a variety of vehicles from
hybrid to fuel cell to show the wide range of
possible applications for Symetron Technology in the
near future. On display were a hybrid HMMVV “Humvee”
and a hybrid truck with Integrated Starter
Generators. Raser has been contracted to design an
Integrated Starter Generator using Symetron
technology that is capable of eliminating the 5
kilowatt generator-trailer currently towed behind
many vehicles with a 30 kW integrated starter
generator that will also add power, stealth, and
fuel economy through hybrid operation.

Danny Sullivan was presented the “Keys” to Raser’s
Formula race-car and a custom “signature” racing
suit bearing his name and the Symetron logo. Danny
will be driving the car again later this year in
high-speed test runs.
