Drive System
April 14, 2008
In a press conference today, Raser
unveiled its Extended Range Series Plug-In Hybrid
Electric Vehicle (PHEV) drive system that is under
development in conjunction with its development
partner FEV, at the at the 2008 SAE World Congress
in Detroit. This Extended Range (PHEV) Demonstration
Vehicle is targeted for completion later this year.
This animation was displayed at the show along with
a full sized display of the extended range plug-in
series hybrid electric drive system.
Jim Spellman, Raser's program manager presented the
drive system design and
answered questions from the press.
The Drive System is designed to enable larger
vehicles such as SUV's and light trucks to achieve
over 100 mpg in typical daily under full electric
power with near zero emissions. This system allows
clean low cost, renewable electric energy to be used
as the primary fuel making trucks and SUVs cleaner
and more affordable to drive. This design is
targeted initially for early demonstration in
utility and government fleets.

"Raser has made an important advancement in AC induction motors, which represents a major step forward in the development of hybrid and fuel cell vehicles. As the author of the CLEAR ACT, the package of tax incentives for alternative fuel vehicles, I have had the goal of lowering the market barriers to the mass production of the best available automotive technologies. I believe that Raser's technology
advancement will play an important role in achieving this goal."
