Heat Recovery Market Approach
Category: Heat Recovery | PrintRaser’s business model provides two preferable options to waste heat producers for benefiting from the clean electricity generated from their waste heat.
A third option is also possible where Raser provides its experise to develop the heat recovery plant by providing specialized engineering and development services.
Raser Develops Project with Joint Ownership and pPA
Raser’s preferential model is to have Raser develop and own either all or part of an on-site heat recovery power plant. Under this scenario, Raser uses the collected waste heat BTUs to produce power and then through a PPA sells the clean power to a utility similar to Raser’s geothermal power business. The difference being that waste heat is the heat source and not geothermal brine. The provider of the waste heat BTUs is paid a royalty similar to royalties paid to land-owners in Raser’s geothermal projects on the revenue generated from the heat recovery plant and agrees to provide the heat over the term of the PPA.
Raser Develops Project with joint ownership and sells power back to user
If the provider of the waste heat BTUs is a manufacturer that uses a substantial amount of power in their manufacturing process (i.e. cement plant) and they desire to use this zero-emission power inside the fence for their own power requirements, assuming that it is economically viable for the heat recovery plant to do so, then the power is sold to them through a PPA out of the heat recovery plant LLC at a small discount that tracks the current power rates of the grid. In this case there are no royalties paid back to the provider of the BTUs. However, they are benefiting from lower power rates on some percentage of their power requirement and this self-generating power can often times sustain basic manufacturing processes inside a plant in the event of a power outage from the grid.
Raser Provides Specialized Engineering and Power Project Development Services
Raser can provide process engineering design services and turnkey solutions to waste heat projects where the heat providers elect to own the entire power project. Raser’s team is positioned to provide the industry’s best specialized power project development services for waste heat power projects.
